Artificial intelligence has moved from experimental to essential in law firms. Modern firms use AI to improve research accuracy, accelerate drafting, streamline document review, enhance client service, and strengthen internal operations. The most effective AI tools fall into several categories: legal research AI, generative drafting AI, e-discovery AI, contract analytics AI, practice-management AI, and client-facing automation. Each category solves different problems, and firms increasingly combine them into integrated workflows. This presentation will focus on AI tools for trust & estate lawyers and the ethical and regulatory considerations for attorneys when adopting these platforms.

Ethical and Regulatory Considerations for AI Adoption:

Duty of Competence Attorneys must understand the technology they use, including its limitations.
Duty of Confidentiality AI tools must be vetted for data-handling practices, encryption, and storage policies.
Duty of Supervision AI output must be reviewed by a licensed attorney; AI cannot practice law.
Avoiding Unauthorized Practice of Law Client-facing AI must be carefully designed to avoid giving legal advice.
Accuracy and Hallucination Risks Firms must implement verification protocols to ensure AI-generated content is correct.

The BCBA will be holding the Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 4 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Basecamp (4909 Pearl East Circle, Boulder, Colorado) . This will be a casual gathering with food and drinks, and is free for all members!

Current president Jodi Martin will be presenting brief remarks on the accomplishments of the bar over the past year. This will be followed by the introduction of our new members of the BCBA Board of Directors.

We will then appreciate outgoing board members. We will also award the Sonny Flowers Award of Merit and the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award.
