Continued drought across the Colorado River Basin has resulted in the first ever Colorado River Compact shortage declaration. This presentation will examine the compacts, legislation, and court cases that comprise the body of the "Law of the River;" how it operates; and why the basin is now facing cutbacks in Colorado River water deliveries. Not just for water attorneys, this presentation is an excellent primer for any attorney paying attention to the news as well as attorneys in other natural resources fields which will be affected by developments on the Colorado.

Gregor MacGregor is a water attorney who has practiced privately and in government. He currently directs Colorado Law School's Acequia Assistance Project, which provides pro bono legal services to underrepresented irrigators in southern Colorado. He also teaches The Law of the Colorado River at CU Law, a field seminar culminating in a floating symposium down the Grand Canyon with subject matter experts.
