Please join the Elder Law section for their March CLE Considerations for Hiring Outside Counsel presented by April McMurrey, Deputy Regulation Counsel, Office of Attorney Regulation. The presentation covers topics such competence pursuant to Colo. RPC 1.1, and assessing the lawyer’s competence; options when the lawyer is not competent; and finally, ethical issues related to hiring outside counsel to become competent.
Judge Maria Berkenkotter (ret.), Chris Jeffers, and Lee Strickler will present on the nuts and bolts of attorney’s fees issues in domestic relations cases, including the relevant statute and caselaw. The panel will describe a sample attorney fee affidavit from start-to-finish, discuss prevailing attorney fee rates in the area, common types of billing practices, and highlight the important ethical areas of concern.

Gabriella Stockmayer will present, identifying recent legal and policy developments in Colorado's power sector and oil and gas sector. In doing so, I will provide brief background on key legal and regulatory frameworks in these different areas. The discussion will lead to the question of how and whether such changes are due to the Trump Administration, or largely immune to changes in the federal executive branch.
